Seminar and Technical Workshop: Cryo-EM in Biological Sciences

The Seminar and Technical Workshop: Cryo-EM in Biological Sciences is a pioneering event aimed at introducing Malaysian researchers to the transformative capabilities of cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM). Given the absence of Cryo-EM facilities in Malaysia and limited expertise in the region outside of Singapore, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for local researchers to explore the applications and benefits of Cryo-EM for their projects.

Cryo-EM is revolutionising life sciences by allowing scientists to visualise biological molecules at near-atomic resolution. This technique has become essential for structural biology, offering detailed views of complex biological structures that are crucial for understanding fundamental processes and developing new therapies. The workshop aims to bridge the gap in local expertise and infrastructure, empowering Malaysian researchers with the knowledge and connections needed to advance their research.

For participants from NTU and other institutions outside Malaysia who already possess Cryo-EM facilities, this workshop offers a valuable platform to deepen their expertise and network with leading figures in the field.

The two-day workshop is structured to maximise learning and collaboration:

• Day 1 (NTU): The second day features technical workshops, including hands-on sessions and technical talks. Participants will explore different applications of Cryo-EM and visit NTU's facilities.
• Day 2 (Thermo Customer Experience Center, CEC): The final day includes a visit to the Thermo CEC, where participants will learn about accessing Cryo-EM control and operations at the Thermo Shanghai CEC.
